Mindfulness Habits You Can Practice Everyday
By Allen Wei
Many people spend their lives constantly on the go, without taking the time to appreciate what’s right in front of them. Mindfulness practices can allow us to slow down and experience more happiness, joy, and meaning in our lives. However, it does not come easily. It is a skill that has to be developed.
Mindfulness blogger, Allen Wei and Project Happiness shares habits you can practice everyday.
- Sit in the morning. The start of the day is a great time to practice mindfulness, it is quiet and you may have a few moments to yourself. It can also help put you in a calm state of mind and set the tone for the day.
- Eat mindfully. Make a meal for yourself, choose foods with a variety of flavors, colors, and textures. Really take the time to really enjoy your next meal, taking time to chew and appreciating each bite. Taking time is better for digestion and more relaxing.
- Spend time outside. Spending time in nature is a great way to practice mindfulness. Take a walk in a nearby park, trail, or even around the block. Tune in to all of your senses and observe what you see, hear, smell, and feel. Being in touch with your environment allows you to better connect in the present moment.
- Focus on one task. Many believe it is better to multitask and get as much done at once as possible. However, by dividing your attention up for multiple tasks, you are not giving any of them the attention they need. Multitasking also increases the possibility of mistakes. Tackle one task at a time, give it your full attention, take a break, and move on to the next task. It is a more mindful and relaxed way to check off your to-dos and can increase your performance.
