The NAB Leadership Foundation spotlighted the Life’s Good: Experience Happiness initiative and honored LG Electronics USA with the Corporate Leadership Award at the National Association of Broadcasters’ 2019 Celebration of Service to America Awards.
This award is presented annually to corporate leaders that exemplify extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility. LG has long held a deep commitment to corporate social responsibility, employee volunteerism, environmental sustainability, social impact and disaster relief efforts. In 2017, launched the Life’s Good: Experience Happiness initiative, with a mission to deliver Sustainable Happiness Skills to 5.5 million youth over five years.
The platform was created to combat stress and anxiety in youth by equipping them with the skills necessary to maintain sustainable happiness for long-term success. With the help of the leading research institution on happiness and wellness, the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, LG identified six teachable and learnable Sustainable Happiness Skills: Mindfulness, Gratitude, Positive Outlook, Generosity, Human Connection, and Purpose. Experience Happiness implementation partners include CASEL, Discovery Education, Inner Explorer and Project Happiness, which have helped the program reach nearly 2 million youth with Sustainable Happiness skills in the first two years.
During the ceremony, LG was honored to be in the company of its non-profit partners and a few special guests, eight students and educators from the Project Happiness Club at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, Maryland. Tenth grade student, Abby Wilson, started the club as a ninth grader without any sponsorship and after learning about Abby’s dedication to spreading happiness skills to her peers, Albert Einstein became an LG-sponsored Project Happiness school the following year.
John Taylor, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for LG Electronics USA, accepted the award on behalf of LG and shared these words: “We hope that as we continue the efforts to help teens cope with the stress they face daily, others will join the mission. There’s more work to be done and at LG, we will continue to do what we can to make sure that Life’s Good for all.”
